Charles Keddy Road in Lakeville is home to a disheartening scene after a destructive fire brought a large farmhouse to the ground on Wednesday.
Firefighters were dispatched to the three-level wooden structure shortly before 3 p.m. on April 21.
Kentville’s fire chief, Scott Hamilton, said the house was fully involved “with partial roof collapse” when crews arrived on scene.
“The fire travelled quite quickly through the structure due to the high winds,” he said.
“…It was a total loss of the home.”

The wind caused the flames to extend beyond the house, spreading to nearby brush, an all-terrain vehicle and a gazebo, Hamilton said.
Two brush fires caused by embers from the burning house were treated as an additional incident overseen by a separate command supported by the Department of Lands and Forestry.
Hamilton said none of the residents of the home were injured, but one firefighter was transported to a hospital as a precaution due to heat exhaustion.
The fire chief noted that a 400-pound propane cylinder near the home also caught fire at one point.
“It was a busy day,” said Hamilton.

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted due to the extent of the damage. The cause of the destructive blaze is undetermined.
Fire departments spanning from Hantsport to Aylesford provided aid. Firefighters were called back to the scene around 7:30 p.m. to deal with flare-ups related to the original structure fire called in earlier that afternoon.
“We just got back and, actually, the crew has gone out to deal with hotspots already due to the wind that’s still (wreaking) havoc on us,” said Hamilton.
EHS paramedics and Kings District RCMP were also dispatched to the scene.
